I was thinking about the future of space exploration a while back and wrote a fictional timeline. ---
US Space Program (2019 to 2050)
Continuing Science experiments at the ISS
July 20th, 2019 - Return of humans to the Moon's surface.
2019 to 2021 - Lunar Geological and Geophysical exploration
2020 to 2024 - Construction of South Pole Lunar Outpost/Base
2020 to 2050 - Lunar Outpost crew and cargo deliveries, expansion of outpost, scientific and technical experiments.
2024 to 2050 - Moon mining and refining of basic materials, manufacturing of structural metal parts.
2025 to 2050 - Construction of combination Way Stations/Orbital Outposts/Gas Stations/storm ports at GTO, HLO, L1, L2, L4 and L5.
2025 to 2050 - Construction of Solar Power Stations on the Moon and Solar Power Satellites in space to beam energy to earth, the moon, outposts, satellites, exploration robots, and exploration ships.
2030 to 2200 - Construction of cities in space
2030 to 2200 - Capturing of NEO's and returning them to the moon to be processed.
2040 to 2050 - R&D program to build Advanced Propulsion Systems and Adanced Life Support Systems.
2050 to 2200 - Construction of Long Duration Spaceships (5,7,10,15,20 years) that can shuttle people to Mars orbit, the asteroid belt, extremely high Jupiter orbit, and extremely high Saturn orbit.
2056 to 2068 - Scientific exploration of Phobos, Diemos, the Asteroid belt, Jovian and Saturnian moons.
2069?, 2092? - First Landing on Mars
2024 to 2500 - Use of Solar system resources.
2069 to 2500 - Mars Exploration/Exploitation/Colonization.
2100 to 2600 - The Great Exodus - Moving the majority of humans off of Planet Earth and out into the Solar System. Converting the Earth into an ecological park. Reduction of Human population.
{Goal 1 - 1 billion people by 2500; Goal 2 - 100 Million people by 2750.}
2150 ? - The First Interstellar robotic probes with Ion, matter/anti-matter ?or 'warp drive'?.
2200 ? - The First manned Interstellar Journey
2263? - First Contact?
2392 - First landing on Earth 2. Establishment of the Jamestown II colony.
2394 - The First Interstellar War. The Dord say we have usurped their rightful claim to the planet Arga/Erth 2. During negotiations, they tell us that our two species will eventually have to compete anyway, so we should have a war now, and get it over with.

(Who are the "Dord"? They are the alien race that I invented for a manga story I was trying to write. I wanted them to be a 'moral' enemy in that they adhere to certain rules of war. )

Interesting timeline. The Dord sound quite 'Kling-onish'. Wow, that word looks weird typed out :D
Hmm, I never thought of them as klingonish. I was thinking that they had something like the Geneva convention that they adhered to. I guess you could say that is 'honorable'. :-)
At some point between 2263 and 2392: First turning in of a Bush family president to the aliens, bye bye George W. the VI !
It's gonna take THAT long to get rid of them? (he says as a chill of horror runs down his spine...)
